Fat to Fit is an emotional journey
As a psychologist, this blog is to record my journey and what I'm learning about transforming my body with food, exercise, and science. It's not what I expected.
What we do
I'm fat...but not for long.
The 192 billion dollar diet industry has one answer, and it's an answer I'm sick of hearing about. After losing and gaining weight over the years, I now will never diet again. Never ever.
So how did I lost 30 lbs over the last four month?
It's a personal thing...
Beyond the fitness ads and the diet industry, there is me. I'm still over 200 lbs, and I'm realizing that there are many steps to this transformation process. There's things that seem unrelated like a strong metabolism. To get that healthy metabolism you need adequate sleep, essential fatty acids, amino acids, glutamine (from foods) and iodine levels . DNA SNPs. And joy.
There's learning what hunger feels like in a way that doesn't feel like "torture." There's the emotional powerhouse of what it means to be thin when you've spent decades being fat.
why we do it
It's more than red white tape.
The physical size of your body has massive implications socially, economically, and mobility-wise for most of us. How we age, how and who we date (or don't...), how we dress, and how we feel about ourselves as sexual people. I'm a sex therapist and my weight has been an enormous importance to me in how sexy I feel.
It's more about science now...
I'm a science-geek. I want to learn what research says. Did you know that allowing a mouse to run on a wheel is great for the mouse's health...except if that mouse is forced to run when another mouse runs? Same exercise, but the "free will" mouse has great biometrics afterward while the "forced mouse" gets even more unhealthy.
Success Stories
We love to hear 'em. I'm going to do my best to talk about the journey, not the destination. And being a psychologist, I have the words and the understanding to describe this complex journey as I'm going through it.
And "success" might evolve as I do. I'll keep you posted.
